Funeral Poems P9

Say Not, They Die, Those Splendid Souls

Say not, they die, those splendid souls,

Whose life is winged with purpose fine;

Who leave us, pointed to the goals;

Who learn to conquer and resign.

Such cannot die; they vanquish time,

And fill the world with glowing light,

Making the human life sublime

With memories of their secret might.

They cannot die whose lives are part

Of the great life that is to be;

Whose hearts beat with the world’s great heart,

And throb with its high intensity.

Those souls are great, who, dying, gave

A gift of greater life to man;

Death stands abashed before the brave;

They own a life death cannot ban.

No Night Without

There is no night without a dawning

No winter without a spring

And beyond the dark horizon

Our hearts will once more sing

For those who leave us for a while

Have only gone away

Out of a restless, care worn world

Into a brighter day

Home In Heaven

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;

Oh, so happy and so bright!

There is perfect joy and beauty

In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,

Every restless tossing passed;

I am now at peace forever,

Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly

Trod the valley of the shade?

Oh! but Jesus’ arm to lean on,

Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,

For I love you dearly still;

Try to look beyond earth’s shadows,

Pray to trust our Father’s Will.

There is work still waiting for you,

So you must not idly stand;

Do it now, while life remaineth

You shall rest in Jesus’ land.

When that work is all completed,

He will gently call you Home;

Oh, the rapture of that meeting,

Oh, the joy to see you come!

If I Could

If I could have a lifetime wish

a dream that would come true

I’d pray to God with all my heart

for yesterday and you.

A thousand words can’t bring you back

I know because I’ve tried

And neither will a million tears

I know because I’ve cried.

You left behind my broken heart

and happy memories too

I never wanted memories…

I only wanted you.

Didn’t Get To Say Goodbye

We’re devastated that you’re gone.

We would have done anything

to keep you here with us,

Right here where you belong.

We didn’t know that life would take

such an unexpected path;

That you’d be separated from us so soon.

Heartbreaking reality we struggle to grasp,

and bitter though our loss has been.

So profound is the pain that we bear,

we’re sadder still at no chance for goodbye.

No final expression of our deep love and care.

First, know that you were loved

in the truest of ways;

So deep that only our hearts can give expression.

Please know that you’ll be cherished

by each one of us.

And though we’ll miss you terribly

We want your Spirit to be free; free to

enjoy all the wonders of Heaven,

not bound to us in our grief.

So watch over us with happiness

from Heaven …

Angel Babies

When God calls little children

to dwell with him above

We mortals sometime question

the wisdom of His love

For no heartache compares with ,

the death of one small child

Who does so much to make our world,

seem wonderful and mild

perhaps God tires of calling

the aged to his fold

So he picks a rosebud

before it can grow old.

God knows how much we need them

and so he takes but few

To make the land of heaven

more beautiful to view

believing this is difficult,

still somehow we must try.

The saddest word mankind

knows will always be “Goodbye”

So when a child departs,

we who are left behind

Must realize God loves children

“Angels are hard to find”
