The Life I Loved

Because I have loved life,

I shall have no sorrow to die.

I have sent up my gladness on wings,

to be lost in the blue of the sky.

I have run and leaped with the rain,

I have taken the wind to my breast.

My cheek like a drowsy child to

the face of the earth I have pressed.

Because I have loved life,

I shall have no sorrow to die.

I have kissed young Love on the lips,

I have heard his song to the end.

I have struck my hand like a seal

in the loyal hand of a friend.

I have known the peace of heave;

the comfort of work done well.

I have longed for death in the

darkness and risen alive out of hell.

Because I have loved life,

I shall have no sorrow to die.

I give a share of my soul to the

world where my course is run.

I know that another shall finish

the task I must leave undone.

I know that no flower,

nor flint was in vain on the path I trod.

As one looks on a face through a window,

through life I have looked on God.

Because I have loved life,

I shall have no sorrow to die.

I’m Still Here

Friend, please don’t mourn for me

I’m still here though you don’t see

I’m right by your side each night and day

And within your heart I long to stay

My body is gone but I’m always near

I’m everything you feel, see or hear

My spirit is free, but I’ll never depart

As long as you keep me alive in your heart

I’ll never wander out of your sight

I’m the brightest star on a summer night

I’ll never be beyond your reach

I’m the warm moist sand when you’re at the beach

I’m the colorful leaves when autumn’s around

And the pure white snow that blankets the ground

I’m the beautiful flowers of which you’re so fond

The clear cool water in a quiet pond

I’m the first bright blossom you’ll see in the spring

The first warm raindrops that April will bring

I’m the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine

And you’ll see that the face in the moon is mine

When you start thinking there’s no one to love you

You can talk to me through the Lord above you

I’ll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees

And you’ll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze

I’m the hot salty tears that flow when you weep

And the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep

I’m the smile you see on a baby’s face

Just look for me, friend, I’m every place

Let Me Go

We’ve known lots of pleasure

At times endured pain

We’ve lived in the sunshine

And walked in the rain

But now we’re separated

And for a time apart

But I am not alone

You’re forever in my heart

Death always seems so sudden

And it is always sure

But what is oft’ forgotten

It is not without a cure

There may be times you miss me

I sort of hope you do

But smile when you think of me

For I’ll be waiting for you

Now there are many things for you to do

And lots of ways to grow

So get busy, be happy, and live your life

Miss me, but let me go…

Lend Me A Kitten

I will lend you a kitten for a while, God expressed

For you to love while he lives, and mourn when he’s at rest

Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three.

But will you, ’till I call him back, take care of him for me?

He’ll bring his charms to gladden you and, should his stay be brief

you’ll always have his memories as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return.

But there are lessons taught below I want this kitten to learn.

I’ve looked the whole world over in search of teachers true.

And from the folk that crowds life’s land I have chosen you.

Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain?

Nor hate me when I come to take my kitten home again?

My heart replied, “My Lord, Thy Will Be Done”

For all the joys this kitten brings the risk of grief I’ll run.

We’ll shelter him with tenderness, we’ll love him while we may.

And for the happiness we’ve known, forever grateful stay.

But should you call him back much sooner than we planned.

We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.

If, by our love we’ve managed your wishes to achieve,

Then in memory of him who we loved, please help us while we grieve.

When our cherished kitten departs this world of strife,

Please send yet another needing soul for us to love all his life.

The Dash

I read of a man who stood to speak

At the funeral of a friend.

He referred to the dates on her tombstone

From the beginning to the end.

He noted that first came the date of her birth

And spoke of the following date with tears,

But he said what mattered most of all

Was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time

That she spent alive on earth

And now only those who loved her

Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own,

The cars, the house, the cash,

What matters is how we live and love

And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard;

Are there things you’d like to change?

For you never know how much time is left

That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough

To consider what’s true and real

And always try to understand

The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger

And show appreciation more

And love the people in our lives

Like we’ve never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect

And more often wear a smile,

Remembering that this special dash

Might only last a little while.

So when your eulogy is being read

With your life’s actions to rehash

Would you be proud of the things they say

About how you spent your dash?

Set Me Free

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free,

I’m following the path God laid for me.

I took his hand when I heard his call,

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work, to play.

Tasks left undone must stay that way,

I’ve found that peace at the end of the day.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Ah, yes, these things too I will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My Life’s been full, I savored much,

Good friends, good times, a loved one’ touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,

Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your heart and share with me,

God wanted me now, He set me free.

My Dearest Family

To my dearest family, some things I’d like to say,

But first of all to let you know that I arrived okay.

I’m writing this from Heaven, where I dwell with God above,

Where there are no tears or sadness, there is just eternal Love

.Please do not be unhappy, just because I’m out of sight,

Remember that I’m with you, every morning, noon and night.

That day I had to leave you, when my life on earth was through,

God picked me up and hugged me, and said, ‘ I welcome you’.

‘It’s good to have you back again.

You were missed while you were gone.

As for your dearest family, they’ll be here later on.

I need you here so badly as part of my big plan.

There’s so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man’.

Then God gave me a list of things he wished for me to do.

And foremost on that list of mine, is to watch and care for you.

I will be beside you, every day of the week and year,

And when you’re sad I’m standing there, to wipe away the tear.

And when you lie in bed at night, the day’s chores put to flight,

God and I are closest to you in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on Earth, and all those loving years,

Because you’re only human, there’s bound to be some tears.

One thing is for certain, though my life on Earth is over,

I am closer to you now than I ever was before.

And to my many friends, trust God knows what is best.

I am not far away from you, I’m just beyond the crest.

There are rocky roads ahead for you and many hills to climb,

Together we can do it, taking one day at a time.

It was my philosophy and please I’d like for you,

To give unto the world, so the world will give to you.

If you can help someone who’s in sorrow or in pain,

Then you can say to God at night, my day was not in vain.

And now I am contented that my life it was worthwhile,

Knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

When you’re walking down the street and I am on your mind,

I’m walking in your footsteps, only half a step behind.

And when you feel a gentle breeze of wind upon your face,

That’s me giving you a great big hug, or just a s oft embrace.

When it’s time for you to go from that body to be free,

Remember you are not going, you are coming home to me.

I will always love you, from that place way up above,

I will be in touch again soon.

P.S. God sends his love.
