So, You Want A New Puppy?

Having a dog or buying a new puppy can and should be one of life’s most enjoyable experiences, yet at the same time it could also be the beginning of your worst nightmare. A decision to get yourself a dog or new puppy is not one that should be taken on lightly.

• ADORABLE NEW PUPPY - People see a dog, usually a NEW PUPPY that captures their heart, “FOR THE MOMENT”. The dog or baby puppy may be totally adorable and irresistible as all baby puppies are, and in the midst of a spontaneous, brainless moment, you decide to buy it. Next minute you are walking out of the Pet Store with a new puppy in hand, just like it were a new TV minus the box. Stick to spontaneous purchases of TV’s and leave the poor helpless life of a new puppy to a responsible, rational thinking person.

• REGRET - Your brainless naive action of buying a new puppy on impulse can and will turn out to be a disastrous decision. One that you WILL very soon grow to regret.

• IMPULSE BUYING - In these types of impulsive decision making, no consideration what-so-ever has gone toward the dogs welfare or life and rest assured you are not the only one who has and will continue to perform these random acts of impulsivity, in fact the careless, impulsive decision you just made to buy this new puppy is the sole reason why there is so many abandoned, homeless, impounded and euthananized young puppies and adult dogs throughout the world. Am I disgusted by this? YES. It’s time governments pulled their heads out of their ignorant butts and made laws to prevent and put an end to ongoing cruelty to animals. People should have to have a license to own a dog or when purchasing a new puppy, but then again so should having a child require one.

• LIFE - Did you know that the stupid impulsive decision that you just made may in the near future cost the baby puppy its life, or a chance at a life with a person or family that planned to purchase a new puppy for all the right reasons.

• CONSIDERATION - Because of your lack of care and consideration, this beautiful, adorable baby puppy’s chance at a great life has suddenly decreased by 50%. The new puppy could of been purchased by a responsible pet owner and by the time you decide you don’t want the dog or puppy anymore, it has grown out of its adorable, irresistible stage and has now become an adult dog that no-one wants or finds interesting anymore..

• ANIMAL CRUELTY - Did you know that your impulsive buying of a new puppy is considered a form of ANIMAL CRUELTY.

• PUPPY MILLS - Do you know that we the consumers are the ones who are responsible for the continued demand for baby puppies from puppy mills? It is us who continue to buy from the websites and pet shops that supply these innocent puppies.

So before you go ahead and repeat the same mistakes as thousands have done before you, stop and consider the reasons for your decision to purchase a dog.

• THINK - Take time to think about the reasons why you are even considering ownership of a dog or puppy.

• OMG WHAT HAVE I DONE? - Make sure you are not impulse buying. This is the life of a dog that you have to consider and take responsibility of for many years ahead.

• DISPOSABILITY - Remember this, just as our kids are not disposable, neither are our “DOGS”. When you purchase a dog, this animal becomes a family member and should be treated as such. If this is not your intention then don’t get a dog…EVER!

• TIME - Do you have time to put into a dog? Dogs are an extremely sociable creature and will crave your love and attention. EVERYDAY, not every once in a while when you feel like it. If you don’t have the time or don’t want to willingly put in the effort to your dog, then DON’T get one, I repeat don’t get a dog, it won’t like you as its owner.

• EXERCISE - Depending on the breed of dog, will depend upon the amount of exercise and stimulation it will require to keep it healthy and happy. Without sufficient exercise a dog, out of sheer boredom will begin to entertain itself at your expense. They will dig holes, chew up anything and everything that they can get their teeth into, bark excessively and become the neighborhood nuisance. Remember your dog was not bought as garden ornament and if you keep a dog under these circumstances then it is not the dogs fault, it is you who created the setting for the problem. So, if you don’t have the time to walk, exercise and stimulate a dog. DON’T get a dog.

• LIFESTYLE - A dog has a major affect on your lifestyle and you should be aware of these for instance, you can’t just get up and go on holiday without having to consider your dog. Prior to you going on holiday you will need to find someone reliable to take care of your dog, walk the dog and feed the dog. You may even have to pay a dog kennel to house your dog whilst you are away, which by the way is not cheap. Your dog’s vaccinations must be up-to-date for your dog to eligible to board at any dog kennel.

• WORK COMMITMENTS - Do you work long hours? If so owning a dog may not fit into your busy lifestyle. So unless you are prepared to walk, feed and play with your dog when you arrive home from work. Don’t get a dog. It would be wrong for you to own a dog as you don’t have the time for one.

• Remember this; Animal shelters are swamped with dogs and puppies abandoned by careless, disrespectful owners who were totally uneducated and ignorant at time of purchase, then later failed to fulfill the extensive, ongoing amount of responsibility involved in taking care of a dog.

• A dog is bought for the length of its life. So you should give careful thought to all of the above factors before committing yourself to one.

• Remember this - beautiful, adorable puppies GROW UP. Yes! They grow up and out of the adorable, irresistible puppy stage that the whole world knows and loves. All too soon they have become an adult dog that is now a not-so-cute burden to everyone, including the owner, who is now at the stage of figuring out how and when to dump the newly unwanted dog and so the cycle continues, year after year.

• Let it not be on your hands to make another unsuspecting dog a statistic of abandonment because of a moment of stupidity.

So, Now Who REALLY Wants A DOG?

• Now hopefully about 80% of the population that thought they wanted a dog don’t, good that is the right decision. ‘cause if you have to think, “Do I really want a Dog” then that would be the first sign of doubt in your mind and you can guarantee there will be justified reason for your doubts.

• The sole purpose of this post is not to make people feel terrible or is about me aiming to be awful and obnoxious. This post is just to help create more of an awareness of what is really happening on our planet to so many beautiful, vulnerable animals. In saying that, I do know that there are many, many great, loving, kind and respectful dog owners or people out there looking to buy a dog for all the right reasons. I can only hope and pray that these precious animals find there way to you.
